so I go to the drug store...
   05/10/08 @3:51am
and I'm looking at the vitamins, when I realize it's time to poop. I ask the lady at the prescription counter if they have a restroom, and she proceeds to let me into the "Employees Only Area". It's a tight squeeze past a refrigerator where the employees undoubtedly keep their lunches, and an almost impossible turn to the left... but I make it. As I'm sitting on the throne, I'm faced with stacks and stacks of brown cardboard boxes marked "Prescription Packaging", along with a few plastic bags of amber colored pill bottles. Pill Bottles. Hundreds and hundreds of pill bottles. Stored in the bathroom. Where it really doesn't smell too pleasant. And they evidently let anybody in there... so whatever bathroom germs (and smells) that happen to be floating around in the air could conceivably make it into someone's medicine. Not to mention that an unscrupulous character (NOT ME) could possibly taint the pill bottles with God knows what. I dunno, doesn't this seem just a little bit wrong?

ugh

I've been out looking at new trucks lately. I've got a '99 Dodge Ram, and I paid close to $17,000 for it (used). Seems they want $38,000+ for a new one... which is to say, one without the kickass stereo (400 watt Ample Audio power amp under each seat and 2 x 10" subwoofers), running boards, or fiberglass cap... but still gets 12 MPG just like the one I have now. They're kidding, aren't they?

It's 32 degrees outside right now. People have been out on their bikes, mowing their yards, washing their cars, and generally getting outta the house for the first time this year. Me, I now have a garage, and for the first time in FOREVER I can shine up my bikes in (relative) comfort. But for right now, it's freezing. Literally. It wouldn't surprise me if it snows before morning. I'm beginnng to think that April sucks almost as badly as February. Oh, by the way... I never did buy that new Harley Crossbones. Working 7 days a week makes it kinda difficult, and once I finally saw one in person, I was reminded of someting that a very wise person once told me; "Be happy with what you already have".

fuck ME
   03/08/08 @5:04pm
I took a vacation day, today. My birthday was a few days ago, I had a day to burn, so why not, right? My Harley Owners Group meeting/dinner was scheduled for tonight, and my buddys' band had a gig set for tonight, so I'm a happy guy, right? Take a shower... shave... set out some decent clothes... tune up my favorite guitar... and then I check my e-mail. Or should I say try to check it. Internet is down, Cell phone is down. Make some phone calls, try the computer again. Long story short, everything that I'd planned to do tonight's been cancelled due to the weather. I'm so pissed off right now that I feel like going to work.

and so...
   03/07/08 @10:23am
The countdown to 50 begins.

geezerdom
   03/04/08 @7:31pm
Holy crap. Another notch on the old belt of life in just a few more days. My hair is getting gray. I need glasses to read. All my clothes seem to be shrinking. What the hell?.

thought for the day
   02/15/08 @1:51pm
Well.I was gonna post some smart-assed humor here, but then I remembered that it was 15 years ago today that my dad passed away.

the thrill of the chase...
   01/23/08 @8:33pm
When I was a kid, my dad and I would be driving along somewhere... I'd see a motorcycle shop and start salivating. "Don't torture yourself", he'd say. I probably thought something like; "There's no harm in looking", but in all honesty the old man was right. Oh, I'd get to the shop eventually... pick up a full color brochure of the model I was interested in... gaze upon the shiny new bikes... maybe I'd even sit on one... but I always went home with nothing more than that piece of paper. I'd pore over the latest motorcycle magazines to read the "Road Tests"... other peoples opinions concening a machine that I knew was perfect. I'd memorize the specs and color options, and generally work myself into a tizzy trying to figure out how I was ever gonna mow enough lawns to save up enough money to actually buy the thing before they quit making it... absolutely positive that I'd never EVER find another model that called to me the way that one did.

And now... my dad has passed on, I'm a 48-year old guy with a decent paying job, and I never have to leave my home in order to look at new bikes. Oh sure, I go to the dealerships, but they never have the one I want in stock. So I peruse the Internet, read Press Releases about all the latest and the greatest, and end up knowing more about new models before the guy selling the bikes does.

36 years ago, I drove myself crazy fantasizing about motorcycles that I never owned. Now, I just pick up my cell phone, call the dealer, and ask "When will you be getting one in?" (not that I can afford to do this as often as I'd like)... I send an e-Mail asking them for a price quote, and download pictures showing the bike from every angle.

So, on the one hand, while I'll more than likely actually end up buying the Harley "Crossbones" pictured below... I think I've lost something along the way, too. All of those bikes that I never owned... never made a payment on... never carried insurance on... never crashed... never had to clean... man, I rode the shit outta them bikes.

new year?
   01/02/08 @2:07pm
Looks a lot like the old one, so far. The tree is down, the snow is back, and it's still too frickin' cold to get the bikes out. I'd buy a snowmobile, but that would practically guarantee we'd have a green January. In the 90's.

something new?
   11/28/07 @1:19am
Sigh. Not hardly. I ended up with nine days off from work, and I'm so bored I can't take it.

so I'm gettin' coffee...
   11/17/07 @2:05pm
at Sheetz's. No big deal. I'd just put $85 worth of gas in my truck (grrr), grabbed a bag of chips, and some hot Java... when I spot this Amish guy... typical straw hat. Homemade denim work clothes and jacket. Light green button down shirt. No beard, 'cause he's still young... and he's standing at the electronic touch screen ordering his lunch. Now, I realize that using the touch screen is probably the only way to order food at Sheetz's, but it was still one of those things that just makes me stop what I'm doing and think about it for a second. Or maybe I'm just weird.

we meet again
   10/26/07 @4:50pm
So... what's new with you? I've been out raking rocks. The concrete clowns (note: "Concrete Clowns" would make an excellent band name) were here yesterday and poured half of my new sidewalk. The garage is half completed.. (I'm getting a new garage.. sorry, forgot to tell ya) But there's just something about my contractor leaving the state to go Elk hunting shortly after I handed him a substantial check seems to be bugging me, but I can't put my finger on it just yet..and I have the weekend off. Yay!.
